Meet the course tutor: Susie Dennis

I have been practicing for over 35 years, teaching for 13.  Having experienced different styles of yoga, the first being Ashtanga, moving to Forrest Yoga, I am a Forrest Yoga teaching, Yoga Alliance Accredited, Yin, Hot Yoga, Iyengar, Sivananda, I am also a Yoga Therapist, (Yogacampus),  Yoga Nidra Teacher, Yoga for Pregnancy and Womans Yoga (Uma Dinsmore-Tuli).

My first degree was in Chemistry (University of Leeds), where I also obtained my P.G.C.E, I collected my M.B.A along the way.

I have worked in research and development, electronic wearables in sportswear, and for the military.  I am also a director in a training company servicing the construction industry.

Acting consultant for Coach-Mentoring Ltd.

I continue to enjoy learning, and sharing what I have learnt.  I bring light-heartedness to all my classes, the students who come to me are my best tutors.

What will I bring to you as a tutor, I bring my joy of yoga, my delight in seeing others ‘light turn on’ when the spark of knowledge is lit.  I bring my ability to mentor students, over a long period of time, supporting them, encouraging them, allowing them to find their own voice.

I bring the knowledge I have of the vast subject of yoga, anatomy, physiology, psychology, philosophy, history, and the styles of yoga.  I bring my experience of business, growing a business, or indeed negotiating teaching for others.

I have two grown up children, one of which is also a British Wheel of Yoga Diploma Teacher, the other who stopped practicing in his late teens, but continues to follow other disciplines that are a kin to yoga.

More about the course content

The course is accredited by BWYQ which in turn is Ofqual accredited, this means that it is within the national framework of qualifications, Level 4 being equivalent to a Foundation Level Degree.  Giving you the assurance that quality of teaching is maintained.

A National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) means that assessments take place.  These assessments are formal and informal, in the form of teaching assessments, presentations, and written assignments.

Unlike a traditional route to teaching, whereby we learn our core subject, then take an additional teaching qualification, the BWY teacher training incorporates laying down the core knowledge of yoga, and then learning how to teach it, incorporating the deeper teachings into a weekly class.

The diploma course is over 255 guided learning hours, in addition to self-study, and your own asana practice.  Over nearly three years, meeting one Sunday per month, with two retreat weekends.
